3) Become a Referee

Refereeing is a fun, exciting, non-contact way to be involved with Rugby League. Not only do you get to see all the action from the best position on the field, but it is a great way to keep fit and meet new people.

The Level 1 Referee course will teach you the fundamentals of the Referee’s involvement in the game. The Course is comprised of online learning and some face-to-face learning. Once you have completed the online and face-to-face sessions, you will have gained the skills and knowledge needed to be a fair and effective referee. On completion of ALL online learning, a short face-to-face assessment is required to test skills learned in the theory modules.

Officials are paid a game fee, plus mileage allowance, and hotel accommodation is provided if needed due to distance and time of game.

Referees are paid $95 per game, Side Judges $40, and Side Judges in Training ($25), per game; plus mileage based on your home to game location.

The USA Rugby League is always seeking anyone with Rugby League experience, or those who are familiar with officiating similar sports (Rugby Union, Touch Rugby, Soccer, etc.) that have an interest in helping develop the sport across the United States.

The USA Rugby League Competition season runs from Mid May, until the end of August. All games are played in Saturday afternoons/evening, depending on game location and consideration of team travel.
